Bradford on Avon

WATER POLO As Great Britain's water polo teams continue their preparations for the 2012 Olympics, a local initiative has been launched to enable swimmers to try their hand at the sport.

The Bradford on Avon team, who compete against clubs from the West and Wales in the Bristol & West League, will be holding open sessions both tonight and next Thursday from 9pm.

Club secretary Tim La Touche said: "Water polo is a fantastic team sport that combines the speed of the swimmer with a high level of ball-handling skills.

"We're looking for new players aged 14-plus and the obvious chief requirement is that they are reasonably strong swimmers.

"Water polo is ideal, for example, for club members who are looking for a new challenge which will ensure they remain fit and active well beyond their years of competitive swimming."

Great Britain will have teams in the men's and women's competitions at London 2012, the first time the country which invented the sport has taken part in the Olympics since 1956.

"It's a wonderful opportunity for the sport to enjoy a deserved high profile and to inspire more people to get involved," La Touche added.

The Bradford on Avon water polo team's season ended on a high note when they beat Weston-super-Mare 12-11 in the final of the Bristol & West League Knockout Cup.

If you’re a strong swimmer and enjoy team sports, water polo will be PERFECT for you!
